Coca-Cola India Set to Introduce Coke Zero-Sugar Zero-Caffeine

by Food Drinks Innovation

Coca-Cola India is gearing up to introduce its globally recognized Coke Zero-Sugar Zero-Caffeine beverage in the Indian market, with plans to manufacture the product locally. The move reflects the company’s strategy to strengthen its presence in the rapidly expanding low- and no-sugar beverage segment, where consumer demand for healthier refreshment options continues to rise.

Unlike existing cola variants available in India, including Diet Coke, Coke Zero, and Pepsi, which contain caffeine, the new offering will provide consumers with a caffeine-free alternative while retaining the brand’s signature taste. The launch is expected to create a new competitive category as beverage manufacturers increasingly focus on products aligned with changing consumer preferences.

The growing emphasis on ingredient transparency, clean labeling, and healthier lifestyles has accelerated demand for beverages with reduced sugar and functional benefits. Industry experts believe that introducing a zero-caffeine cola could provide Coca-Cola with an early advantage in this evolving segment, particularly if it successfully delivers on taste and consumer expectations.

The launch also aligns with broader global health trends. The World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted that excessive caffeine consumption may contribute to sleep disturbances, anxiety, and elevated heart rate, encouraging consumers to moderate their intake. As awareness of these concerns grows, demand for caffeine-free beverage alternatives is expected to increase.

According to industry estimates, zero- and low-sugar beverages now account for nearly 30–35% of India’s soft drinks market, a significant increase from around 5% in 2020. The category has witnessed a series of launches in recent months, with several beverage companies expanding their portfolios through zero-sugar offerings to cater to health-conscious consumers.

India’s soft drinks industry is also witnessing robust overall growth. Market research estimates indicate that the country’s carbonated soft drinks market is projected to expand from approximately US$15.4 billion in 2026 to US$22.4 billion by 2033, supported by rising disposable incomes, low per capita consumption, wider product availability, and increasing competition among domestic and international beverage brands.

With the planned local production of Coke Zero-Sugar Zero-Caffeine, Coca-Cola India aims to further strengthen its portfolio and capitalize on the country’s fast-growing demand for healthier beverage choices.
