Corbion named a double winner at the European Pet Sustainability Awards by Pet Sustainability Coalition

by Food Drinks Innovation

Corbion, a global leader in sustainable food-ingredient solutions, has been named a European Pet Sustainability Awards winner by the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) in two categories: Climate Action Leadership and Sustainable Ingredient Innovation. These awards recognize leading companies in the pet industry that demonstrate excellence in environmental stewardship, innovation, and measurable impact.

The PSC is a US-based, global non-profit organization founded in 2013 that helps pet industry businesses improve their environmental and social impact. It provides tools, education, and accreditation for sustainable sourcing, packaging, and operations to over 200 members.

Corbion’s recognition in Climate Action Leadership reflects its science-based-target approach to decarbonization and transparency across the value chain, externally validated by leading sustainability benchmarks and aligned with global reporting frameworks. The company has set net-zero targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligned with the Paris Agreement, and continues to embed climate action into its business strategy through renewable energy, process efficiency, and low-carbon innovation. In addition, Corbion’s ingredient solutions enable pet food manufacturers to reduce their environmental footprint.

In the Sustainable Ingredient Innovation category, Corbion was recognized for its algae-derived omega-3 solution, AlgaPrime™ DHA. Produced through fermentation, AlgaPrime™ DHA decouples omega-3 production from wild fish capture, helping to protect marine ecosystems while ensuring a stable, scalable, and high-quality supply. Independent studies on Life cycle assessment of heterotrophic algae omega-3 shows a 30–40% lower climate impact compared to traditional fish oil, while supporting pet health and enabling more sustainable product offerings.

“Winning in both Climate Action Leadership and Sustainable Ingredient Innovation reflects how sustainability is embedded across our supply chain and product portfolio,” said Olivier Rigaud, Chief Executive Officer. “We are committed to delivering science-based-target climate action and breakthrough ingredient solutions that help our customers build a more sustainable and resilient pet food industry.”
