Delhi Government Launches Intensive Food Safety Drive Ahead of Festive Season

by Food Drinks Innovation

In preparation for the festive season, the Delhi government has ramped up its food safety checks across the city to ensure that sweets, packaged water, and non-vegetarian food items meet strict hygiene and quality standards.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh has directed officials to conduct extensive inspections in all districts, emphasizing the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health during this peak consumption period.

Chairing a meeting with Food Safety Department officials, Singh underscored that any negligence in maintaining food safety norms will face strict action. “The Delhi government is fully committed to ensuring that every citizen consumes safe, hygienic, and quality food, especially during the festive season,” he said.

As part of the ongoing inspection campaign, 20 samples of food items such as paneer, khoya, and spices have been collected from various parts of Delhi. Additionally, 139 samples of raw non-vegetarian products have also been taken for quality analysis.

Officials have assured the minister that rigorous monitoring and laboratory testing are underway to verify compliance with safety standards and prevent the sale of substandard or adulterated products.

Recognizing the growing market for packaged drinking water, Singh has instructed teams to scrutinize all water brands to ensure they conform to established quality and safety regulations.
The minister further ordered comprehensive inspections of sweet shop chains operating under common brand names, stressing the importance of uniform quality and hygiene across all outlets.

The Food Safety Department noted that Delhi Police is extending full cooperation in the enforcement efforts, with joint inspection teams responding swiftly to ensure compliance at the ground level. This proactive drive reflects the Delhi government’s firm stance on protecting consumer health and promoting food safety as the festive celebrations approach.
