The Tea Development & Promotion Scheme for the period 2023-24 to 2025-26 includes a range of incentives for small tea growers by organizing them into self-help groups (SHGs) and farmer producer organizations (FPOs). This support aims to enhance their productivity and quality, add value to their products, and achieve better price realization. Assistance is provided for common facilities such as field mechanization equipment, leaf carriage vehicles, leaf sheds, pruning machines, mechanical harvesters, storage warehouses, and the establishment of new mini factories for producing orthodox, green, and specialty teas. Additionally, it includes soil testing and capacity building through farm field schools.
The objective of the Tea Development & Promotion Scheme, implemented by the Tea Board, is to improve the production, productivity, and quality of Indian teas to remain competitive in global markets. This scheme aims to sustain the long-term wellbeing of the tea industry and the livelihoods of growers, workers, and other stakeholders. The activities under the scheme also generate employment. Sub-components such as setting up tea manufacturing units, adding value, and supporting brand promotion for start-ups encourage entrepreneurship, particularly among the youth involved in the tea industry.
The Tea Development & Promotion Scheme (2023-24 to 2025-26) includes activities to increase production, such as replanting old and senile tea bushes, supporting the establishment of tea nurseries, and training small tea growers in field management practices to improve their production and productivity.
