Marel’s new systems make the process easier, more efficient and more hygienic
Automated evisceration of turkeys demands highly specialized equipment, ideally with minimal reliance on labor. Since 2020, Marel has been modernizing its entire range of turkey evisceration systems. “The heart of this department, our turkey eviscerator combined with the three-point suspension system, is a benchmark in the industry,” says Arjan Schrauwen, Marel’s Turkey Product Specialist. “Other critical machines include the VC-T vent cutter and our highly efficient new NIC-T cropper, which has been a great success in the market since its introduction in 2020.”
“Since 2020, our upgraded evisceration systems feature our durable, robust RS frames. This also applies to the VO-T opening machine, the NC-T Neck Cracker, the FIM final inspection machine and our latest addition, the Inside/ Outside Washer*. This generation of turkey equipment is more straightforward to control and easier to clean,” says Arjan Schrauwen.

Saving labor
With skilled labor becoming harder to find, automating the evisceration department is a smart move, as this is where a turkey plant experiences its biggest challenges. Thanks to updated Marel systems, the evisceration department is now a lot less dependent on labor. Arjan Schrauwen continues, “We no longer need so many backup staff to monitor machine operations, as our systems perform very reliably, ensuring, for example, precise neck cropping and thorough lung removal during evisceration.” Customers report an effortless 20% reduction in staffing levels. To save even more labor, an automated ACM-T cut-up system and an FHF-XT front half deboning solution can be added further down the turkey line. This makes the process simpler and more efficient.

Polyvalent
The updated Marel evisceration machines can handle both start-up and high capacities, processing up to 3,000 toms or 4,200 hens per hour [50 tpm, 70 hpm]. With their ability to adapt to a wide weight range from 5 to 22 kilos [11- 48 lbs], Marel’s turkey equipment is versatile enough to process toms and hens on the same line. In such a polyvalent line, switching between genders is straightforward, requiring only a few adjustments to accommodate different product sizes. With Marel automation, the turkey evisceration process not only requires fewer people, but also becomes more efficient and more hygienic. Additionally, final product quality is superior even at maximum capacity. marel.com/turkey * Exclusively for the US market, a LineLink DE-T transfer unit with integrated feet cutter is available.
