Nestlé to Eliminate Artificial Food Colourings from Global Product Portfolio by End of 2026

by Food Drinks Innovation

Nestlé has announced that it will remove artificial food colourings from all its food products worldwide by the end of 2026, becoming the first major global food company to implement such a commitment across its entire portfolio.

The company will replace artificial colourings with natural alternatives as part of its ongoing efforts to simplify ingredients and respond to evolving consumer preferences for cleaner labels and healthier food products.

Nestlé had already completed the removal of artificial food colourings from its food and beverage portfolio in the United States. According to Stefan Palzer, the transition has been in preparation for several years, reflecting the company’s long term strategy to reformulate products while maintaining quality and consumer appeal.

The announcement has been welcomed by SAFE Food Advocacy Europe, which has consistently raised concerns about the potential health effects of additives commonly found in ultra processed foods. The organisation said the move supports its call for stricter regulations on food additives, including colourings, sweeteners and other ingredients, to encourage healthier product reformulation across the food industry.
